IThe Origin
Aurelia began as a complaint. We could not find a lounge chair that was low enough to relax in, high enough to rise from unaided, and quiet enough to place beside a nineteenth-century console.
The collection took eleven prototypes. The arm profile alone was redrawn thirty-one times, each version cut in polystyrene and sat in for a week before judgement was passed.
It is made by a workshop of four people in the Marches. They produce roughly ninety pieces a year and will not produce more.
IIInspiration
The curve of a Roman bath step, photographed by our founder in 2019 and pinned to the studio wall for four years before it became a chair.
IIICraft
Frames are steam-bent walnut, mortise-and-tenon jointed, with no metal fixings in the visible structure. Upholstery is hand-stuffed with horsehair over a webbed base — a construction that will outlast its first three owners.
